Games to Play on a Long Road Trip

If we all enjoyed long road trips, it would be quite the wonderful experience during the holidays. We may not always feel jolly stuck in holiday traffic, but there are a variety of fun road trip games to make it much more enjoyable.

20 Questions

One person thinks of something, and the other people ask a series of 20 yes-or-no questions to guess what it is. The person who guesses correctly before 20 questions is the winner and starts off the next round.

I Spy

A person starts with the phrase, "I spy with my little eye something…" and says the color of the object he or she sees. The rest of the people in the car get chances to ask yes-or-no questions until they correctly guess what the person spies. The winner gets to start a new round.

License Plate Initials

Look at the letters on a license plate and make up what they might stand for. Everyone in the car comes up with an answer before moving on to the next letter combination.

License Plate States

Spot the states of the license plates of the other cars around you. Try to get all 50 states!

Dump, Date, Marry

Name three famous people and decide which one you'd dump, which one you'd date and which one you'd marry. If you're adventurous and enjoy swimming in dangerous waters, name three people you know instead.

Car Colors

Everyone picks a color, and each person counts all of the passing cars in their color. Whoever reaches X number of cars first wins. No cheating!

The Name Game

Someone says a name, and then the next person has to say a name that begins with the last letter of that name, and so on.

Name That Tune

Turn on the radio and change the station until you hear a song, and see who can name the tune first.

Spelling Bee

Host a spelling bee and take turns quizzing the other passengers' spelling skills.

Rhyme Time

One person picks a word, and then each person has to say a word that rhymes with it. Whoever drops the pace loses and has to think of a new word.

Where in the World?

Pick a place to hide (figuratively speaking, since you can't physically leave the car), and see who can guess where you are based on descriptions and yes-or-no questions.

7 Degrees of Kevin Bacon

Pick an actor or actress and connect him or her to Kevin Bacon in 7 films or less.
