Maximize the life of your car, truck, or SUV by following these simple maintenance tips from Coggin DeLand Honda.

       
  • Cars today are controlled by on-board computers, fuel injection systems and complicated ignition. Have a Coggin DeLand Honda technician perform a diagnostic service to ensure everything is working properly.    
  • Abrupt starts use more fuel than steady and smooth acceleration. Adjust your accelration style and you'll save some gas.    
  • Dirty air filters can cause your engine to run at less than efficiently. It's pretty simple to spot a dirty air filter and the cost of a replacement filter is minimal.    
  • If there is an external cooling system leak, tighten, repair or replace leaking parts. Perform a pressure test to determine if and where a leak exists.    
  • If you need help starting your car in winter, get an engine tune up. Have any issues quickly diagnosed and repaired before the onset of colder weather in order to keep your car running smoothly all winter long.

  • Check and replenish fluid levels in your clutch cylinder, transmission, master cylinder, and washer solvent reservoir. Give the oil levels a fast look, change it and install a filter according to the manufacturer's recommended interval.    
  • You can boost the cleaning performance of your gasoline with proper gas treatment. Completely clean your fuel system and you can help restore peak engine performance.    
  • Completely clean your fuel system to help get rid of deposits throughout the entire fuel system including fuel injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers.    
  • The best month to look at your tires is May, in preparation for upcoming summer travel. Check your owner's manual for your vehicle's proper interval and rotation sequence.

  • The coolant in your cooling system should be replaced every 30,000 miles or according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. Replace the coolant with the proper proportion of water and coolant when low. (50/50 mix.)

  • Engine coolant helps protect a vehicle's cooling system from extreme temperatures and helps prevent the radiator form overheating during hot weather, or from freezing during cold weather.    
  • Make sure to check your automatic transmission fluid. It contains additives that prevent corrosion system wear and oxidation and protects against transmission breakdown.    
  • Engine oil should always be changed according to manufacturer's recommended intervals. Understand what "Severe Service" means. Your intervals could always be shorter.    
  • Oil that does not have a "W" in its thickness rating might make the engine crank too slow to start. Check your owner's manual for the recommended thickness for the coldest temperature expected in your region.    
  • Windshield wiper blades should be capable of completely clearing the windshield in three passes. Replace the blades if cleaning the edge of the blade does not help.
